Sophy Clark
I am a dedicated, creative designer who enjoys researching historic and contemporary art and design taking inspiration from a wide variety of sources to create original work.
Aided by research and creative practice I enjoy working with concept to communicate an initial idea into a considered outcome. I translate my ideas through a variety of technical processes from drawing to computer manipulation. I am always excited to explore new approaches to create original work. This project explores European landscapes influenced by historic textiles from Asia and Europe which depict imagined scenic realms based on mythology and historic events. Textural marks and figurative images are sourced from observational photography taken in local woodlands, natural landscapes and the French Alps. Drawn details and colour have been inspired by historic and contemporary artists such as Albrecht Durer and Peter Doig. While paying homage to history the project creates its own scenic narrative with a contemporary aesthetic through scale, colour and drawing.
