Rachael Allen
Rachael is a textile design graduate specialising in multi-media. Her work is driven by textures and patterns, envisioning them as fabric and translating them into processes that will be visualised into fashion collections.
Her project 'Under the Microscope' has taken inspiration from entomology, the study of insects. Working from a selection of images captured by a microscope, she explores the unexpected nature of insects textures and forms and imitates these with processes such as laser cutting, shibori and applique. Building upon the contrast of the density of their bodies and lightness of the wings, the combination of sheers and velvets have been used. In turn this has steered the project towards a high-end fashion collection.
