Molly Buttery
As a printed textile designer I produce detailed fine-line drawings, exploring ways to create conversational prints that have a curious theme. My prints are developed into bold high-content designs which I transform into garments that emphasise my prints.
Through my research in London, I was able to create an explorative narrative that investigates Victorian inventions and curiosities. My work particularly looks into medicinal herbs and beliefs, astronomy/space equipment and the developments in technologies made in the 18th and 19th centuries. Through my prints I have worked with and explored a variety of weights in fabric: soft leathers to lightweight and flowing silks to create a collection that shows fabric printing techniques and digital printing, as well as having a handmade quality. My aspiration is to become a successful printed textile designer and to eventually set up my own business in print and fashion design.
Awards
During my placement I helped design and created clothes for celebrity customers that were photographed and shown in the press. I also was able to have clothing sold in a collective, pop-up store in Birmingham Bullring Shopping Centre. Exhibiting designer at Premiere Vision, Paris. Selected for private viewing of Alexander McQueen flagship store in London.
