Lucy Scarlett
Lucy’s work focuses on drawing, painting and surface interest to create contemporary printed textile collections. Experimentation and pushing the boundaries of surface design techniques often feature within her work.
Lucy’s final degree collection, 'Where Transience Meets Permanence', explores the juxtaposition that exists in open-air sculpture parks between the permanence of artists’ sculptures and the ephemerality of the natural landscape that surrounds them. The collection looks at the way in which the sculptures and the landscape interact, questioning the extent to which seasonal changes and the growth of nature alter a sculpture’s aesthetics and become part of the artist’s work. Lucy has experimented with digital and screen-printing methods, as well as copper etching, to create a varied collection aimed at the luxury interiors market. Shapes and textures found within original photography are explored in a contemporary colour palette to create compositions applied to a range of fabrics. Upon graduation, Lucy aims to begin a career working as a textile designer.
