Laura Graham

I am a fine artist who specialises in mixed media abstract paintings. This year I have chosen to explore how the human body can be interpreted through my signature style.

Pareidolia is the phenomenon of seeing recognisable objects or patterns in otherwise unrelated objects or patterns – an elephant in the clouds or the face of Christ in your pizza topping. It is this phenomenon that I am exploring through my work. I take my original inspiration from the human body. Working in both two and three-dimensions, I change and distort representations of body parts to lines, shapes and patterns to create abstract forms. It is then for the viewer to determine the images that emerge for them from the illusion that I have created. Like the Rorschach Test, with its random ink blots, which is used by psychologists, this can reveal hidden aspects of personality, buried memories, secrets or desires.
