This body of work focuses on creating surface design pieces inspired by mid-century design classics. Key considerations to the collection are form, function, texture and colour, underpinned by a focus on sustainable design practices.
The inspiration for this project was drawn from functional objects found in everyday environments. From my research of mid-century design, I discovered the importance of creating designs that adopt a humanist approach to formal and technical principles associated with modernism. In this collection I have produced a series of domestic design solutions for dividers, lighting and tile designs inspired by the mid-century period. I have utilised processes such as embroidery, laser cutting, ceramics, woodwork and print. Throughout, I have used sustainable materials made from natural fibres and have adopted a zero-waste approach. After graduation I intend to work in the interior design industry.
