My paintings and painted installation use paint to visualise the invisible force of gravity, documenting its effects on motion onto canvas.
My paintings are created using gravity, allowing the force to pull the paint across the canvas to form geometric patterns. My process-based work embraces a playful approach towards chance. The colours of the circular paintings have been carefully selected from geological and cosmological imagery in order to establish a visible link between gravity's effects on Earth and throughout the universe. The installation, by comparison, uses a monochromatic colour palette, with a focus on its network of lines that document multiple past movements that gravity influenced when I was making the painting. The fabric is suspended, as if defying the very force that created it. This project has really helped me to develop my use of acrylic paint and my understanding of colour theory. Each canvas has been handmade, so I have gained skills within various workshop equipment and tools, as well as sourcing good quality materials. In the future, I would love to apply my skills in creative and reflective thinking to the business environment, and over time begin to sell my work online and in my own shop.
