The Senses
Grace Gilroy
My work applies narrative through portraiture and presents a view on contemporary social realism.
My art is about the distortion created by the media effecting the way people (especially the younger generation) view the world. I use oil paint to create portraits with narrative purpose implicating contemporary social realism and exploring human condition. I ensure each piece isn’t too obvious as I am entranced on how the difference in audience varies; how someone of age may interpret a piece of work compared to a younger audience. Each piece demonstrates a conscious decision made by me creating the work but also an insight into the mind of the person painted, a demonstration of the issues we face today and how the future will move forward. Each painting is highly detailed and showcases realistic subjects. I am conscious of artificial and natural lighting and I’m entranced on how paint can illuminate the difference in tones drawing attention to the digital age.
