My work is an embodiment of emotions, memories and experiences. I have a deep sensitivity to environments where I feel detachment from society and spiritual closeness. Combining observation and experience of reality with personal emotion and memories, my work is realised intuitively and is atmospheric and expressive. My practice involves drawing, painting and printmaking; using creative writing to further explore experiences of place and emotional atmospheres. Layering of imagery is a metaphor for memory. I am affected by remote and wilderness environments and have been influenced by glacial, geological and climatic forces in the Canadian Pacific Northwest. In these environments I feel an ‘immanent’ sense of spirituality and emotion. I particularly respond to sensory elements like light and atmosphere. Although my work has been concerned with my experiences of physical and mental isolation, the figures suggested in my work are family members who represent close emotional connection.
I will be taking up a place to do an MA Print at the Royal College of Art in September 2019
