Painted and looped acrylic

This sample has been lasered, painted, shaped and incorporates looped suede cording. The use of shape and colour was important in this sample as it helps to explain the continuous and repetitive movement of the city.

This piece is one of three and is part of my "City Scape" collection. The etched shapes and use of colour have been influenced by New York's architecture and each incorporate a different colour pallet to separate the pieces into the "New York - Morning", "New York - Day" and "New York - Evening".

Emily Battersby

I am a surface designer renowned for fresh, bright and contemporary design collections. My final collection reflects the theme: The Mood of New York.

This project focuses on my experience of New York when I visited in December of last year. I have combined the different inspirational features such as the city's architecture, surface, material and aesthetics to create a surface design collection suitable for a domestic interior space. My collection has used a variety of processes such as: stitch, plastic shaping, laser and etch work, weave and print using material such as plastic, wood veneer, cork, suede and neoprene. I thoroughly enjoy manipulating material and creating innovative surfaces and with the majority of my collections being designed for an interior setting, I would love to start my career within interior design.
