Mixed Media in Layout Design
Featured projects
Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami - Layout / Editorial Design
For the Penguin Books Student Design Awards, I designed this book cover through strategically burning different coloured and textured paper to represent different parts of the novel. I layered and photographed the paper and then digitally edited it with type in Photoshop and InDesign.
Catalogue - Layout / Editorial Design
For one of my Final year projects, I worked on creating an interactive catalogue promoting an Erasmus+ Study Abroad destination that I went to. The catalogue is catered to the second years on the Graphic Communication & Illustration course at Loughborough University, to educate and inform.
Colour Blindness Awareness Campaign - Publishing / Packaging Design
This final year project was exploring the realms of colour blindness. The purpose was to educate and inform those who are unaware of the effects, causes and visual displays for those with colour blindness and how it varies on the spectrum. This campaign was pairing the Colour Blindness Awareness organisation and Pantone, a colour recognition company, to show what a colourblind person may see in their everyday life. The design work was created using photography, and Photoshop.
The Happiness Project - Illustrative Typography
The Happiness Project is a campaign I worked on, promoting mindfulness to people of all ages and locations. I interviewed all kinds of people to encourage them to find and maintain what keeps them happy in their lives. I created these pieces using objects based on the quotes, and transformed them into an illustrative form of typography. This was then photographed and edited in Photoshop and Illustrator.
Wine Label Design - Editorial / Packaging Design
This is an example of a wine label design concept I created for a German vineyard with an intended audience of young adults who can appreciate their wine; with Künstler meaning artist in German. I created the design using Illustrator and then mocked it up in Photoshop.
Aysha Lilani
I am an experimental designer, focusing on the application and composition of mixed media; primarily photography and typography.
Throughout the duration of my degree, I have documented my experimental design practice via photography, which I then digitally manipulate to express the message to the desired target audience. My main focus is layout design, through the careful construction of image and typography. I strive to transfer my developing knowledge of cultural and social issues into my design practice in order to enlighten and entertain others.
