My work is centred around the idea of chance and authorship, and how one perceives it. I explored this by producing drawing machines that place a distance between the user and the final creation, challenging the fundamentals of drawing. I then invite you to question: if you were to use this drawing machine, where does the authorship lie? With the creator of the machine, the machine itself or the user of the machine? The drawing machines themselves further question authorship, by having their own names, personalities, and sizes. They all have their own drawing styles, and this humanisation leads to the further challenging of authorship, possibly causing the machines to own their own outcomes.
Throughout my time at Loughborough University my practice has changed from drawing with nature to photocollage and now to engineering drawing machines. I utilised my organisational skills through completing all the experimentation I had planned to do. I have learned to be adaptable and punctual as my work developed through the years. I have discovered new skills with wood-work through my machines and experimentation this year and hope to continue this into the future. I aim to further widen my artistic experiences through volunteering, freelancing and commissions.
