Anna McGurrin

My practice is an exploration into the pressure women feel to present themselves as a “woman”, under the constraints of what society deems to be “womanly”. My work aims to generate ideas of toxic femininity and negativity surrounding self-image. I create self-portraits; using dress up, wigs and make-up to create a dramatised version of a woman. The personas I create are not reminiscent of myself but are instead fictitious women. Which I have created via the anxieties I feel about being a female, and I believe these anxieties are common amongst many women within society.

Throughout my time at Loughborough I have acquired a wide range of skills, these include: photography, Photoshop skills, creative problem solving… My work has enabled me to decide on my career path; I aspire to work within the fashion world, working in set design or fashion photography.
