My work explores the ability of colour to provide an immersive environment, drawing upon the abilities of painting and sculpture.
Painting has consistently driven my practice. Through a focus on process based methods in replacement for abandonment of figuration my work looks at the sole ability to shape the form. Its focus regarding its immersive abilities have driven curatorial engagement, enabling a second dynamic regarding experimentation with illusions of space and lighting. This aspect of my practice has driven my exploration with painterly sculpture, breaking the the restrictions of the 2D pictorial surface in apprehension to take up a more confrontational positioning with the spectator, consequently increasing their aesthetic experience. The aim of the practice is to immerse viewers within this experience of colour. Within a wider artistic context I hope to be able to use my art to provoke affect within spectators, so they leave having had an overwhelming experience once having observed it. The concept is something I am driving to achieve within my degree show and want to continue to explore after I finish my time at Loughborough University.
