Motivated by current environmental issues, my work explores the materiality of plastic bags. I respond to our plastic-rich society by recycling the material and elevating it into the field of Fine Art.
Utilising the pliability of the material and its unique aesthetic qualities, I create harmonious collages of texture, colour, line and text. Through fragmentation, layering and interplays of colour and texture, I reframe the context of plastic bags to dislocate a viewer’s perception of the material; resulting in a new, sensuous experience. I aim to follow my interests and pursue a career in either a creative or environmental field, in which I can employ the knowledge and skills I have obtained from this course.
